Message from Our Coordinator

Maver

Welcome to Youth for Change Solomon Islands. We are a dynamic, youth-led movement founded by a group of dedicated students at the University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Campus (USPSI). Our movement is proudly affiliated with the Malaita Provincial Youth Council (MPYC), reflecting our commitment to fostering youth engagement and leadership at both local and provincial levels.

The genesis of our movement lies in a shared vision and concern for the youth in the rural regions of the Solomon Islands. We, as students, recognized a significant gap in the access to critical information that young people need to make informed decisions. This gap hampers their ability to become empowered and proactive members of their communities. In response, we formed Youth for Change Solomon Islands with two core objectives that guide all our initiatives:

  1. To Educate Young People on Leadership, Good Governance, and Democracy:

Our goal is to provide comprehensive education on what it means to be a leader and the principles of good governance and democracy. We believe that understanding these concepts is crucial for young people to effectively participate in and contribute to the political and social processes of our nation. Through workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions, we strive to demystify these topics and make them accessible and engaging for all youth.

  1. To Educate Young People on Their Roles in Society and How to Be Active Citizens:

We aim to empower young people by educating them about their roles and responsibilities in society. Active citizenship is at the heart of our mission. We encourage youth to understand their potential impact and to take initiative in their communities. Our programs are designed to inspire and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to drive positive change.

In pursuit of these objectives, we have recently undertaken the Noise Project, a significant initiative that engaged over 5,000 young people. This project was launched in anticipation of the Solomon Islands 2024 National General Election, aiming to raise awareness and prepare the youth for informed participation in the electoral process. The success of the Noise Project underscores our capacity and dedication to making a tangible impact.

As a youth NGO, we are committed to continuous growth and collaboration. We are actively seeking partnerships with stakeholders who share our values and principles. We believe that through collective effort and shared vision, we can create a more informed, empowered, and active youth population in the Solomon Islands. Together, we can work towards a brighter future where young people are at the forefront of leadership and societal development.

We invite you to join us in this journey. Whether you are a fellow youth, an organization, or a community leader, your support and collaboration can make a significant difference. Let’s work together to educate, empower, and inspire the young people of the Solomon Islands.

Sincerely,

Maverick P. Seda
